Investing in innovative research

Does your research have commercial potential?
Curtin can help you crack the market.

If you have developed something new and useful that is marketable, we can help you, both financially and logistically, to turn your idea (or 'intellectual property') into a product or service that the wider community can purchase. The process is called 'intellectual property commercialisation' and when done right, everybody wins: the inventor (you) and the investor (Curtin) benefit financially, gaining funding for further research and the community benefits from the product or service being sold. Typical examples of intellectual property include inventions, computer programs, literary/artistic works and trade marks.

What assistance is provided?

We can provide you with:

  • advice on IP issues and rights
  • guidance in obtaining protection and liaison with Patent Attorneys
  • assistance with the commercialisation decision-making process
  • assistance with business plans at various stages of the venture
  • assistance in finding industrial partners
  • assistance in developing commercialisation strategies.

Where does the funding come from?

Curtin frequently co-invests with venture capitalists, angel investors and industry partners. If you are interested in becoming an investor, see Information for investors.

Recent projects

We are proud of our achievements to date, and invite you to browse the IP Commercialisation Brochure.pdf [2.3Mb], which showcases some of the excellent projects that have resulted from the commercialisation of Curtin technology. Many of these projects have become companies which are making sales in the international market, while others represent exciting research outcomes which are yet to be spun out.
