Curtin FM

Curtin FM presenter

An historic community radio station.

Operating out of the Bentley campus, the station now known as Curtin FM 100.1 was Western Australia's first public broadcaster. Established in 1975 as '6NR', it was borne out of the University's philosophy of community involvement. Back then, the station was considered ground-breaking for giving media access to Aboriginal people, ethnic groups and women. The station also offered our journalism students invaluable on-the-job training. Volunteer presenters produced the station's programming almost entirely.

Today, the community vibe of the station hasn't changed much - volunteers still form the core energy that supports Curtin FM and our students and graduates continue to land jobs in the broadcasting industry due to the unique opportunity offered to them through the station.

Over the years, Curtin FM has built a reputation as a supporter of music primarily from the 50s, 60s and 70s.
