Research
Building world class capability in R&D through strategic alliances and partnerships.
Curtin aspires to be a world class University of Technology through 'the application of creative thinking and ingenuity to the solution of definable and practical problems in all fields of human endeavour.'
- Dr Haydn Williams, first Director of WAIT.
In pursuit of this overall goal, we have established a strong track record of working with industry, government and community groups to understand their needs and, through innovative research and development, to provide long-term benefits.
Areas of expertise
Curtin's research strengths are concentrated around 5 broad themes. It is in these areas that we will continue to concentrate our research efforts:
- Resources and energy
- ICT and emerging technologies
- Health, ageing and well-being
- Communities and changing environments
- Growth and prosperity
Degrees by research
Curtin offers higher degrees by research at the master and doctorate level. Our reputation for being a strong partner in industry-driven research ensures graduates enjoy outstanding international opportunities and the expertise to become innovators in their fields.
To qualify as a research degree, at least two-thirds of the work completed must be research-based. Programs are offered across a range of research disciplines. Visit the Postgraduate Study website for more information on higher degrees by research.
Resources and Chemistry Precinct
Development of a new, $100m Resources and Chemistry Precinct is now underway at the Bentley campus. The precinct will enable experts from industry, university and government to collaborate, advancing the nation's capabilities in chemistry, minerals and energy.
The precinct will accommodate over 300 professional scientists, engineers and staff in state-of-the-art facilities for research in petroleum, hydrometallurgy, nanochemistry and environmental science fields.
